Lattice is a series of framed ceramic tiles inspired by the geometric patterns of decorative window grilles in Taiwan. The demand for handcrafted wrought iron grilles has steadily declined since the 1980s, replaced by mass-produced aluminum for its lower cost and resistance to rust. This series examines that shift while celebrating the decorative patterns of traditional window grilles. 

Each tile is made using nerikomi, a Japanese hand-building technique of layering and slicing colored clay. Through this process, the darker clay bleeds into the white echoing the material trace left behind by aging iron. This series seeks to preserve these culturally significant forms, serving as an homage to Taiwanese craft traditions.
